November 7, 2002. Loosely based on what I wrote below and inspired by this BeyondUnreal forum thread I've put some ideas for an upcoming UMake update on Unreal Wiki: UMake. Feel free to add your comments in the thread or on that Wiki page.
In other news, Trystan has set up a U.S.-based download mirror for UMake (see below). Thanks!
November 6, 2002. Finally got around to setting up a small web page for UMake and releasing it to the general public. Enjoy. Download links are at the bottom of this page.
I'm releasing UMake without known bugs at this time, but with a wish list for future versions already. My goal is not to get into feature creep like I did with MeshMaker before, so I'll release updates as I implement new features (and fix bugs). Here's the current wish list:
- Add a means to recompile the current project after success or failure without closing the UMake window. (That'd be especially convenient for those who don't have a chance to start UMake from within their source editor.)
- Add a means to launch the game after compilation. I'll probably include a way to specify additional launch parameters on a per-project basis too.
In order to keep the UMake window as clutter-free as it is right now I'm thinking along the lines of a drop-down menu providing those options as menu commands. (The Options button could be moved to that menu too.)
